PBL Core Skills: An Introduction to Community-Centered Project Based Learning
April 16 - May 14, 2024
4:00-5:00 PM
Virtual Series
(8 clock hours available)

All across our education system are teachers, administrators, and support staff working to create a meaningful learning experience for our students.

And yet, too often we're handed one-size-fits-all "curriculum-in-a-box," entirely disconnected from our students' lives and written without them in mind. While well intentioned, this approach has done little to counter the current rates of teacher burnout and has perpetuated racial and socioeconomic inequity across our schools as students have their identities, passions, and life experiences discounted and made invisible within the classroom's walls.

Project based learning (PBL) is a way of teaching and learning that instead emphasizes student experiences within their communities, local problem-solving, interdisciplinary critical thinking, equitable classroom practices and culture, and college and career readiness.

In this 5-week course, you'll learn the core skills you need to create relevant, meaningful, and community-centered PBL units for your students and classroom. And this is not a sit-and-get PD series; at the end of our final session, you'll have a fully-customized project outline written and be ready to begin crafting your daily lesson plans.

Session 1: PBL as a Vehicle for Equity in the Classroom
